Search Websites by Description text

What is it?

This search system looks for websites in our database based on the text used to describe the website.  This is a basic text-matching system that works based on the URL, site title, and site description as entered into our database.  You will get results that resemble a category listing.

4 July, 2004: Descriptive search is coming online!

How do I use it?

4 July, 2004: This system is experimental.  Fill in the search box below and click the "Search" button to try it out.

Descriptive Search:

Enter a word or phrase that describes the kind of website you are looking for.  If the word or phrase is found in the url, the site title, or the site description, the website will be listed.  The current ordering is by entry into our system.  [Our relevancy scoring system will begin with step 2, late summer of 2004.]

Guidelines:

  • Do not use small, singular words like 'a', 'an', 'the', 'or': this will generally pull an entire site list.
  • Avoid apostrophes (') and quotation marks (")
  • Avoid slashes and backslashes - these will truncate your search string
  • We do not yet support boolean expressions (and, or, not)
